It's supposed to be whatever its configured as. Obviously, mod_unique_id thinks there should be a mysqlhurts.

If Apache can't resolve the ServerName you give it, then it will puke in strange ways (I've seen this happen before). Make sure that the ServerName is set to something resolvable (use ping to test if the name can be looked up) and likewise the hostname of the machine (add an entry to /etc/hosts if necessary).

If it helps anyone(I'm his best friend, also newbie, also use FC4, but w/ apache working)... his login screen says mysqlhurts NOT localhost.localdomain.

Since I am also a newbie, I don't know if this will do anything... but, xblueorbx, try changing /etc/hosts (should be a text-like file) to this under the comments:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

if it is not already.

He probably has "mysqlhurts" in his /etc/hostname file.

If he adds "127.0.0.1 mysqlhurts" to his /etc/hosts, I bet that would clear up the problem.

My /etc/hosts file reads the following:

# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

... I guess it just doesn't want to work.

Code:
# new /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain mysqlhurts
That should fix things.
