Hi. I have a pretty much fresh install and opengl doesnt work. I have the ati-drivers and ati-drivers-extra and ati-gatos installed. Installing them didn seem to make any differance and i discovered the fgl commands. Now gkxgears runs at
Code:
myroom ~ # glxgears
1352 frames in 5.0 seconds = 270.400 FPS
1680 frames in 5.0 seconds = 336.000 FPS
1680 frames in 5.0 seconds = 336.000 FPS
1200 frames in 5.0 seconds = 240.000 FPS
But fgl_glxgears doesnt work.
Code:
myroom ~ # fgl_glxgears
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 142 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 33
Current serial number in output stream: 33
I then tried using fglrxconfig but xorg would not load the config file, so i tried to tweak it using my original config file (for things the fglconfig didn ask me but xorgconfig did). Anyway i could not make it work. Things like opengl screensavers work but they are slow and sketchy! But i cannot play opengl games like quake, UT, doom etc.
Im running an ATI Radeon 9000pro 128mb graphics card so i should have no problems in that sense. Incase anyone needs it heres the output of flgrxinfo.
I added ModulePath "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules-extra/gatos" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf I think that is telling it about the ati drivers. When i run startx it says that it cannot resolve radeon driver or something.
If you have slocate on your system, try searching for the exact module name, then add that too module path. What I was more asking is if you had changed your card to use the ati-drivers, in the Device section.
Ok i have just been playing around with fglrxconfig and im confused. I know this is going to make the thread huge but im going to post the fglrxconf and xorgconf files:
Code:
xorgconf produced:

I have tweaked these a bit in places trying to fix them. They have not broken but it hasnt helped :|
# locate ati | grep -v portage | grep module | less
(I'm assuming this is the gentoo server you have as your distro)
This should return anywhere on you system where there is something dealing with ati. Add the location it returns to your ModulesPath. I'm not sure if ati requires a kernel module to function also, if it does, make sure that is loaded, and fire it up.
No this is the desktop. I was just looking through my kernel modules find /lib/modules/2.6.11-gentoo-r6/ -type f -iname '*.o' -or -iname '*.ko'. The module that xorg needs for my ati Firegl graphics is fglrx but when i try and modprobe fglrx it says:
