Problems using guarddog on mandrake 9.1 (I need a good firewall!!)

Hi, I'm running into some problems using guarddog. I'm on mandrake 9.1 and I use penggy to dialup AOL to access the internet. I started with the file guarddog-2.0.0-4mdk.i586.rpm and then upgraded to the file guarddog-2.1.4-1mdk.i586.rpm but I'm having the same problem with both. I even tried the latest version of 2.1.5-1mdk.i586.rpm but am having the same issues. The problem I am running into is that I can only access webpages for a short amount of time and then all of a sudden it stops working. If I sign off and sign on again I can access the web for a little, and then it stops again. Also, if I choose disable firewall and sign off and sign back on then I can use the web indefinitely. I only have proticals enabled in the internet zone. They include DNS, http, https, edonkey and two custom ones to allow xmule through (which is a linux port of emule which is a better version of edonkey). I think that xmule works at first for a little then stops just as http does although I haven't tested it as much. Also of note, this is the message that comes up in the terminal when I hit apply "WARNING: KDE detected X Error: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) \x08
Major opcode: *" I got that warning with all three versions. As a note I am running guarddog only in root. When I quit guarddog I get this message in the terminal "Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy" I have no idea what that means or if it has an impact on guarddog. Guarddog isn't the only program where I get that message though. By the way I am on KDE, not sure if that influences anything though. I can't think of any other info to add so if you need any addition info please let me know. Thank you for your time.

PS if anyone knows of any other GOOD (hopefully easy to use) firewalls that work well on mandrake please let me know, I need one badly, especially if guarddog doesn't work out.

iptables is nice you just have to read the man pages to be able to configure it and everything and it comes with mandrake also if not installed already it will be on your installation disks
