Problems Uninstalling RealPlayer
 

Hi ...
lets take a look at the terminal ..

[firas@localhost firas]$ rpm -qa | grep Real
RealPlayer-8.0-1
[firas@localhost firas]$ rpm -e RealPlayer
error: cannot get exclusive lock on /var/lib/rpm/Packages
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - Operation not permitted (1)
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm
------------------

and when i log as root .. then type the rpm -qa or try to uninstall the package the terminal hangs and nothing happens .. note that i'm using RedHat 9.

any suggestions?

Sounds like the problem is with rpm...I uninstalled realplayer to test it and it worked fine...viola no more RP. I have never had any problems with rpm, but I know a lot of others have. Try searching the forums for:
search: rpm hangs (or) rpm just sits there during uninstall (or) rpm -e locks up machine...or some such nonsense. I occours to me that there is a quick fix for this with some command but it escapes me now.
