Problems starting Red Carpet
I can get Red-Carpet to start.
I downloaded the packages, installed them and typed as root: # red-carpet the program asked me to connect to my system and start the rcd deamon. I cliked on Yes... in the terminal on the background I could see the follwoing: Starting rcd: [ OK ] but after no more than 20 seconds, "Red Carpet" said, that it couldnt connect to server and sent me back to the: What server you want to connect? web page. I read in Ximian's web page that maybe I had to start rcd first, so I did: After stopping rcd, I typed this command: su /etc/init.d/rcd start and again, I got: Starting rcd: [ OK ] Checked the /var/log/rcd/rcd−messages file by typing: vi /var/log/rcd/rcd−messages (BTW is there a more efficient way of checking the end of a log file ?) and it reads: Nov 13 12:04:33 [1658] Copyright (C) 2000-2003 Ximian Inc. Nov 13 12:04:33 [1658] Start time: Thu Nov 13 12:04:33 2003 Nov 13 12:04:33 [1658] Loading system packages when I try to start red-carpet, It says the deamon is not running (which is not true). Here are some specks: I run RedHat 8.0, kernel 4.22 and P2 machine with 128 ram. My network doesnt use a proxy, but it is behind a firewall (maybe this is the problem). Am I being unpatient and just need to wait a little longer for rcd to gather all my packages info  ? Thanks for any help... Camp |
