Problems running Wine in Slackware 9.1

I installed Wine on Slackware but it wouldn't run, it just asked for the ~/.wine/config file. I copied the sample file to the folder and some slight modifications according to my system. I was then able to run Wine but still the programs do not run correctly since it tries to write to c:\windows\desktop but can't since my c:\ drive is set up as NTFS and I do not have write permission on it. Is there any way around that?

No it's not that. I don't know but my kernel doesn't seem to give me write support although it's 2.6.5. Anything else?
