Problems Redhad9 to Fedora core6

Hi!
Fedora core 6 and Vista on Compaq nx 7400.
I am transporting my working environment from my old NEC versa premium (redhat 9.0 and Win 98se)
Everything is OK but 4 points:
1)Modem
The AGERE winmodem of the motherboard is not recognized by Linux and my old PCMCIA V34 US-Robotics modem has not the right driver. It is found (pccardctl ident; hwconf ) but not connected to /dev/TTyS3). Im am not competent enough to recompile the kernel with the right driver.
2)explore2fs: the software under window to access the linux partitions works, accesses to /boot,but does not properly access to the partition with Linux LVM Id.
3)I have a file written with kword *.kwd and I have not the KDE Desktop nor kword. Impossible to read with Office2.
4) My old astronomy software Xephem_3.0 does not works. It needs libXm.so.3 and Motif.

Sorry to be so long
Could somebody help me ?
Thank you very much.

Georges

explore2fs will only see real partitions not logical volumes created through LVM. I know of no windows tools that can see partitions within the LVM wrapper.

Had similiar issue. Ended up using a live cd like knoppix and convert all docs to a usable format. Quicker than installing KDE if not needed.

I would search here for recommended repositories for either yum or apt and then install them that way. Or manually find what is needed either by looking through the rpms on the install cd or goto www.pbone.net

George

You seem to be the type guy the does an install only once every few years (Redhat 9 has been dead for 4? years). Support for FC6 will be dropped in September (?). If you are looking for installing only every few years and like Redhat based destros you might want to look into Centos it is essentially Redhat with the logos removed (free to download). Centos has support for 5 years. It also has a lot of "legacy" packages available because a lot of Centos users were Redhat 9 (and others) users.
