problems installing yahoo messenger


This newbie tried to install yahoo messenger from an rpm thingie
i did rpm -i rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm

and got the following message
error: unpacking of archive failed on file /opt/ymessenger/bin/yahoo_gnome.png;40cf72c8: cpio: mkdir failed - No such file or directory

what does this mean and what should i do?

hello!

did you tried this as normal user? try it out as root.type this:

su
*this makes you root

Password:
*type the root password

rpm -i rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm
*installs yahoo messenger

exit
*you get back to normal user

/opt/ymessenger/bin/ymessenger
*start yahoo messenger

thanks i finally got yahoo messenger running on my linux box, but what is this command

/opt/ymessenger/bin/ymessenger?

and is this the only way i can start ymessenger, i can not see any icon for yahoo messenger on my desktop, nor can i find it in my startup

u can create a shortcut manually.
rt. clik on ur kde/gnome desktop. point ur cursor to create new>link to application. Here in 1st tab u can specify the icon n name u want to display. in the execute tab give the path of the file n press ok.
u r done................... just double clik that icon.

with /opt/ymessenger/bin/ymessenger you start yahoo messenger. it's the path and the executable to it. you have to use it even when you create an icon.
it's like c:\program files\yahoo!\messenger\ymess.exe

thanks boby
i noticed the backslashes for windows
and the front slashes for linux,

is that a difference, or linux accepts both front and back slashes?
