I'm trying to configure sendmail on my Debian squeeze. Somehow I cannot get it to work, it's not asking me for any configuration and installer is done within a second.
It gives me some errors of some packages missing (?):
Code:
root@united-gamers:~# aptitude install sendmail
The following NEW packages will be installed:
sendmail
0 packages upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0 B/209 kB of archives. After unpacking 258 kB will be used.
Selecting previously deselected package sendmail.

I'm not an expert with Debian, but from what I've read, you're missing some other packages, specifically the ones listed above. From this page: http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/sendmail
It tells you that the sendmail-*** packages are required. I'm not familiar with aptitude, but with an rpm install command on SuSE/RedHat platforms, there's an option to install a package without checking dependencies. The aptitude man page will have details on the options. You may have to install the sendmail package that way, and the dependencies after, or try just doing an apt-get to install it too (again, not familiar with that command, but the man page will be able to tell you).
You may also want to try to install the sendmail-base package first, then the -bin, then -cf, and see how that goes.
When I try to install those required packages (-bin, -cf, -base) manually it says it's already up-to-date.
Code:
apt-get install sendmail-bin
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
sendmail-bin is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Even when I run
Code:
apt-get remove sendmail
and try it again it tells me that it's already the most recent version.
