I am currently running Mandrake 10.0 and I'm trying to get GTK 2.x.x installed (2.4.4 or similar?) and I am having a lot of problems installing Glib 2.4.0 or better. I currently have Glib 1.2.10 and whenever I install any Glib 2.x.x package, nothing seems to happen. Running pkg-config --modversion glib still gives me 1.2.10 even after running ldconfig (which I've seen suggested on a few different sites). There are no errors during the Glib installl, everything seems to go smoothly, but then when I try to compile Pango it says I need Glib 2.4.0 or better! The only thing that has crossed my mind is that Glib is being installed in the wrong location? but I thought by default it chose the correct location and only changed it if the user used the --prefix option?? Can someone please help me with this!

i would just use urpmi to install gtk.
