Problems Building alsa-utils 1.0.16

I'm attempting to update ALSA on my system (Slackware 10.1, custom kernel 2.6.21.5) to the latest version, 1.0.16.
I have successfully built and installed the alsa driver and libraries, and have moved into building alsa-utils. But the build is producing an error that I cannot figure my way around:

Code:
speaker-test.c: In function `main':
speaker-test.c:763: error: `LC_ALL' undeclared (first use in this function)
speaker-test.c:763: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
speaker-test.c:763: error: for each function it appears in.)
make[2]: *** [speaker-test.o] Error 1
I have searched online for a solution to this problem and have come up empty-handed. I found one forum in which someone wrote a small howto, which is essentially what I've been following- and towards the end of the thread someone else posts the same problem, but there has been no solution posted.

Does anyone have a clue as to why this error is coming up? Could it be that my kernel is too old? Could it be a bug in the alsa code itself?

I have tried to build a previous version of alsa (1.0.15) and it rendered the same error.

Any suggestions??

Thanks,

- skubik.

Try to move the line:
Quote:
#include <locale.h>
in the file speaker-test/speaker-test.c outside of the ifdef statement to see if it helps.
