problems after installing scanner

Hi, I installed a scanner on my Mandrake 9.2 and now some weird things are going on on my desktop. The icons + some applications in the menu are missing. Links on my desktop to e.g. home, mounted floppy, ... don't work. But I can open all the applications from command line. Creating another user and logging in as the new user or as root doesn't help. Normally I use kde but I have the same problem with Ice. Any idea's what's going on or how to fix this problem?

Known problem in Mandreck 9.2. Go and get the update.
Installing new programs in the original version fsck's up
the menues. Good luck.

Well, I just checked for bugfixes in Mandrake Control Center and installed those that seemed related to this problem or interesting to install. So I can't really tell which package solved the problem.

After installing I did update-menus and everything was back normal.
