problem with Xine and XviD

I did do a search and didn't find an answer to my problem.

I have SUSE 9.2. Xine was installed. I have downloaded, compiled and installed (./configure, make, make install) the XviD files without apparent problem. I downloaded and compiled the most recent Xine. Xine still gives a "There is no input plugin available to handle..." error when I try to open my XviD file. I have opened this file just fine in Windows via MedaPlayer, so I know that the file is good.

From what I saw in my search, somebody will recommend mplayer, but when I try to make it or RPM it, it says that libraries are missing. With the RPM, I got the missing RPMs, and -i them, and it still says the same things are missing when I try to install it.

I'm sorry to bother everyone, but I've been working on this all day and have reached a dead end.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

hmm....

When launching xine from the command line, it seems to work.

I still don't understand it.
