Problem with X on ML8.2 logging in as root

Hello,

I am having a strange problem with X on my system. I just installed Mandrake 8.2 (Download Edition). I have a GeForce3 64MB, and I have installed the latest nVidia drivers.

When I log in as a normal user, everything works great! I've got Samba working, I can listen to MOD files with the xmp plugin, etc.

However, when I log in as root using KDE, I get this nasty red background, the Splash screen crashes with Segfault 11, and when it finally logs in it is SLOOOOOOW, with no desktop icons or anything configured.

Not that I really need to log in as root, as I have been just su'ing when necessary, but I am wondering if there is a simple solution to this problem? It is just a major annoyance.

Thanks,
Joe

you can change the background, this is the default to warn you that you are root. As far as the other goes, you might try to remove roots files in /root for kde and replace them with the ones for a user you have setup like you want it and change ownership of them.

It is best not to use root to login to run X, but if it's not a critical system you might be ok. just remember that your system is much more vunerable.
