Problem with X after installing kdebase-dev, using kanotix, and xfree86 4.x

Hi, since I installed this package I have not been able to run X, when it was installing it gave the option to use xfree86 or xorg, I choose xorg but it said somthing like warning:swtich to xorg.conf.
When I try to start X it gives and error and dies, '/etc/x11/ is not executable'.
The graphics card I'm using it nvidia geforce 6200 that I think the kanotix installation configured X for, should I reinstall these drivers?
Since I done apt-get dist-upgrade.
How would I make sure it uses xfree86 and not xorg and how to fix this problem?
