Unhappy Problem with TR-4 IDE Backup

OK this is the last step to my first Linux Web server project. And I must say BOY o BOY was this a little frustrating for a Newbie to do.

Sooo Anyway, I have my box setup like so:

- RH 9
- Running the Abit VP6 Dual processor Board Using the RAID with 2 80 Gig HDs
- Work around for the RAID controller issue by using the noprobe hde etc line in grub
- TR-4 IDE Tape drive on IDE 1 with CD-Rom running as slave

Now the prob is that the IDE Tape drive is recognized in the Hardware Screen as /dev/hda but it is not in the Drive Management screen. Also, I am trying to use KD DAT for the backup (Tell me if this is a bad idea) and the tape wont show up there either.

So i need to know what to do from here. Basically I just want to make a backup every 2 days at 1pm, I have 2 tapes i will swap in and out and i need to know what programs to use what commands to use andwhat directories to backup in case of HD failure in addition to my data.
