I installed suse linux 10 on dell optiplex GX620 with 20 inch monitor. I installed with the option of Install with ACPI disabled option as my computer is new one as suggested by software. It compelet installation and successfully update the software. Then the system reboot asked me which oprating system I want to start. I selected Suse linux. Then I got only black screen. Then I thought the problem might be with the monitor configration as I am unable to see the GUI. I did the following to solve the problem.
1. clicked CTR-ALT-F1 to get the Dos like command prompt. I got it signed as a root with my root passward.
2. typed startx
I got the following error and warning message.

3. I typed init 3 with out start x. the step reached
4. typed sax2. search for while and got the same black screen
I know the problem is still with startx and sax2 thing. Please would you give me your professional help?
I'm having exactly the same problem, however whenever I boot into SUSE 10.0 Failsafe, log in and type startx -- :1
It loads into kde with no problems and then runs fine untill I try to log out or reboot. When I do I just get the blank screen again and have to hit the power button.
I have worked out that the problem is with Xorg. however I cant see why as it is the same version as in SUSE 9.3 which had no problems.....
SaX: initializing please wait...
SaX: access to your display has been granted
SaX: including profile: /usr/X11R6/lib/sax/profiles/firegl...
init: could not open file: /usr/X11R6/lib/sax/profiles/firegl at /usr/share/sax/init.pl line 971.
You may use ACPI, actually, but for that you need to give to the installation specific cheat codes to boot with.
On very complex main boards it's recommended to use "pollirq" bootoption
