I spent the better part of yesterday getting dependencies installed and working correctly so that I could use dvd::rip. I am running SuSE 9.2 with Linux kernel 2.6.13.1. The packages I have installed to get dvd::rip working have come from either SuSE's public ftp servers or (when I could not find what I needed there) from packman.
Some details about what
is working in dvd::rip:
- From the dvdrip program, I can read the TOC for a dvd and I can playback just fine. (Point is: I am not having a dvd encryption problem.)
- When I use "Check All Settings" from dvdrip, everything tests ok, with the exception of cdrecord which I do not want to use anyway. It is not required.
When I try to rip a track, I see:
Quote:
transcode: warning: (dl_loader.c) loading "/usr/lib/transcode/export_ppm.so" failed
transcode: warning: (encoder.c) loading video export module failed
transcode: warning: failed to init export modules
transcode: critical: plug-in initialization failed
|
That's it - the rip fails. Here is what I have tried:
- Reading the full documentation and FAQ info at http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/. I have also looked through archived list emails. These do not address this issue satisfactorily that I can find.
- I have tried a couple different versions of transcode.
- I have tried searching this and other forums for clues.
- I have googled for clues and found that this seems to be a relatively common problem. I have found a couple hints like, "Maybe export_ppm suport was not built in to the transcode package" but I am not sure if this applies to me as the file is on my system. I probably will not contact packman and ask him to build in support for an older version of SuSE unless I get really desperate.
- I have tried compiling transcode from source, and it is a re-run of the same dependency hell. I have not yet taken the time to try to force the ./configure script to see where I installed all its dependencies.
If anyone has any ideas on this, I would appreciate it. This program seems to be unnecessarily difficult to install and configure.
