Problem with RPM package

Hi at all

I have a strange problem when installing a RPM package on distro CentOS.

In particular I download the interested package and install it printing this command:
  • rpm -ivh package name

The installation process terminate with success but when I verify if the same package has installed with the following command:
  • rpm -q package name

I get this message: package name is not installed.

Can any one tell me why?

thanks.

When you run "rpm -ivh package name" that is NOT the package name, that's the FILE name. but "rpm -q package name" that IS the PACKAGE name - the file name need have nothing at all to do with the file name in it.

Not strange when you know the answer!

Yesss, that's all right!!

Now it's work fine!

When installing package the correct synstax is: rpm -ivh file name of package

When querying package the correct syntax is: rpm -q package name, where package name is file name of package without extension .rpm

thanks.

On CentOS 6.5 you really SHOULD be using "yum" and NOT downloading some random "rpm" from some unknown site and installing with rpm

yum is designed to SOLVE for the required dependencies
