Hmmm...Pine will send mail out, but inherently contains nothing to allow you to download messages off of your ISP's mail server. You'll need something like fetchmail to do that for you. Are you using anything like that?

Not true. Pine allows one to specify an imap hostname when you list the incoming mail folders:
in the ~/.pinerc:
Code:
# List of incoming msg folders besides INBOX, e.g. ={host2}inbox, {host3}inbox
# Syntax: optnl-label {optnl-imap-host-name}folder-path
incoming-folders="mailserver_inbox" {mailserver.edu}/var/spool/mail/myname

After reading moses' post, I went and tried editing the .pinerc file to add my mail server. I may not have been doing it right, but I couldn't get it to correctly download my messages into a folder.
It's easier, in my opinion, to install fetchmail and refer to [a href="http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=41527&highlight=configuring+fetchmail"]here[/a]
to set it up the rest of the way. (The configuration is minimal - it's just creating a file with one line in it) From then on, run "fetchmail" to download your messages, and "pine" to read them and send messages out.

HTH,
Laura

The way I have my pine set up, it doesn't download anything to my home system, it just checks my mail on the server. When I save something from pine, it saves it on my home system disks. I guess the success depends on the imap server on the other end. . .

Pine can send or receive (multiple if needed) POP just fine.
Also does multiple identies for sending email.
Only thing is it can be a bitch to configure.
Check here.
Good Luck.
