hi guys,
I compile MPlayer-1.0pre5 with no error but when I want to play a video file, I just can hear the sound and there is no video display!
And also simetime with no sound! In fact just some reports on the konsole and nothing else.
please tell me what is the problem and how can I solve it ?
BTW my distrow is Debian and I had no problem with this version of MPlayer in SuSE 9.0 .
If you plan to use MPlayer on x86 architecture, you will possibly need them. Download the Win32 codecs from our codecs page and install them to /usr/local/lib/codecs BEFORE compiling MPlayer, otherwise no Win32 support will be compiled!
Thanks Megaman X ,
as you can guess, I'm a newbie to Linux and may ask some foolish questions!
I have some questions about codec.
Is it a package just for mplayer or other programs will use it too!
In SuSE I didn't install this package but I have no problem with mplayer and I can watch my video files and also listen to my audio files!
Is it possible that I might had installed it while installing SuSE and didn't install it in Debian Installation ?
again thanks in advance!
ok, Now I understand what are codecs and why MPlayer need them. But a problem, which one of these I should install ?
1- win32
2- FFmpeg
or I need both of them ?

I was sort of puzzled about that too, so I installed all of them. It seems to work fine that way. Here is the result of rpm -qa | grep mplayer:
Thanks syd,
I could find the win32 codec on the download page of mplayer site, but I couldn't find FFmpeg !
of cource there is a package named essential-20040704.tar.bz2 .
Is it FFmpeg or not ?
if not from where I can get it ?

You shouldn't have to get it. It is included in the mplayer package. It is called libavcodec.
