Problem with module-init-tools-0.9.15

I currently have RH8 installed on my server with kernel 2.4.20-4. I am trying to upgrade to 2.6.4 but I am having problems with modules. When I went to ftp.kernel.org to get the module-init-tools, there were two types; 0.9.15 and 3.0. Which tools do I use? Secondly, can any one give me some help with installing the module-init tools? I am totally lost and nothing seems to be working and my sound modules won't load on my server (it's doubles as my multimedia center).

modutils is for 2.4 branch kernels, module-init-tools is for 2.6 branch. you should have both installed together. it will install just like any other rpm software package, that is assuming you use an rpm for it.... http://rpm.pbone.net
