Problem With KDE

I've just installed Debian 3.0 r4 which took me a lont time because i'm a newbie at Linux.
After installing it i typed startx and the X Window showed up. I'm Usind KDE.

The problem i have is that when i'm using KConqueror, when i double click on a folder the window freezes, though the system doesn't. The first time i open a folder, it runs smoothly but almost always, the second time freezes.

It also happends for example when i use the FindFiles program. After i do, when i click browse to choose where to search it freezes.

I reinstalled Kde, KDM and X Window but it still doesn't work............. what can i do??? which is the problem??

Thank You

PS: Sorry for my english but it's not my native language

If you're using this computer for a desktop, can I recommend you upgrade to 'Debian Sarge' - you'll be using more up-to-date software that way.

How do you do that? Well if you have a (fast) internet connection working on this machine, open /etc/apt-get/sources.list (as root) in a text editor and whever you see the word "Woody" replace it with "sarge" and wherever you see the word "stable" replace with "testing".

Then (once again as root) run "apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade" to get some much newer software.

If you don't have a stable internet connection to this PC, then download the latest Sarge iso and install from that. You will find the Sarge installer much easier to deal with.

(As a new user of Linux, you may also find kubuntu or SimplyMepis better distributions to use. They are both based on Debian, but are optimised for desktop use.)
