Problem with installation of MySQL python

Hi,

In the process of setting up a boinc server, i am trying to install MySQL-python-1.2.2,
during the process, m getting this error!!

python setup.py build
running build
running build_py
copying MySQLdb/release.py -> build/lib.linux-i686-2.3/MySQLdb
running build_ext
building '_mysql' extension
gcc -pthread -shared build/temp.linux-i686-2.3/_mysql.o -L/usr/local/lib/mysql -lmysqlclient_r -lz -lpthread -lcrypt -lnsl -lm -lpthread -o build/lib.linux-i686-2.3/_mysql.so
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmysqlclient_r
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1

I have also installed the MySQL client community package..
MySQL-client-community-5.0.45-0.rhel4.i386

along with
mysql-5.0.45

I am using a CENTOS 4 machine..
kindly help me out as with how I should proceed further??

it looks like you have a gcc compiler that's not compatible with your packge.

see the requirements for the package you are about to install and look for compiler or gcc section.

Isn't an RPM package for mysql-python?
have you tried:
Code:
yum install mysql-python

The error message is saying "connection timed out" ... that means you internet connection dropped or the repository you are trying to use dropped off for some reason.

have you tested you network/internet connection?
