Hello. I am aLINUX n00b, and I'm having a little problem with GRUB. I've had a lot of OS switches, hard disc switches, etc. on my computer, so naturally it ends up being a pretty tangled jungle. A while ago, a friend of mine helped me out with GRUB, and apparently installed it to my master boot record. I recently switched from Windows back to Ubuntu (after fixing – okay, reinstalling – Ubuntu) and since then have not been able to boot my Windows. The grub commands are as follows (more or less, I could misspell, I'm not copy-pasting):
This had always worked for me before, but ever since installing Ubuntu, without modifying GRUB, whenever I try to boot Windows I get this message:
Starting up...
Which is normal. But it never starts up, it just sits there. The first time, it even started repeating the message on different parts of the screen, and then my printer just started printing pages that said “Starting Up...” I have no idea what to do. Could I get some help?
Before we can help you with grub, we need to know what is on which drive. Your post implies that Windows was installed on the second drive as drive "D:". Is this really the case?
Windows is the slave, Linux is on the master (along with a few other storage partitions, but Linux is on the main partition). I know that I'm booting the right drive. I tried just booting off of the other drive from the boot menu, but it brings me back to Grub.
