Hi,
I'am having troubles with my Gnome desktop.
I had to compile latest sources of GEdit, and had to update quite a lot of Gnome components to do this.
But since I did it, I have no more icons on my desktop, and it is not reactive to mouse clicking anymore.
Nevertheless, my control panels still work perfectly.
Any idea of what's going on ??
I checked on KDE that my launchers were OK, thus I guess my Desktop folder is OK.

(I'm running Mandrake 10, and the sources I downloaded for gnome are the latest from ftp.gnome.org).

Nautilus is responsible for desktop icons. Have you checked that nautilus is running? Try to start it on the command line. I recently broke nautilus on my debian, I got it working again after updating.

You may also consider a different file manager, e.g. roxx

Sounds like you need to install shared mime info and desktop file utils
