problem with flash movies

Hi!

Since I moved to slackware 12, Firefox 2 have been crashing when it starts to load a page in youtube. Opera doesn't open the flash plug-in (I only get a gray area in the place of the flash movie). I already tried to disable some of the plugin paths, but no deal. Also tried moving to firefox 3 beta 5 but, for some reason, looks like I got some kind of memory leakage when I run it, so my laptop starts to chop the video after some seconds/minutes with constant access to swap.

Slackware with untouched libraries, running on a laptop NEC LaVie C LC500/3
Custom kernel 2.6.24.3
Pentium 4 1.4 GHz, 256MB RAM. ATi Mobility Radeon with 8MB.

Some ideas?? Thanks!

I think this is a known problem (at least with firefox3) where the flash-plugin conflicts with pulseaudio. I've also noticed that the chance of the browser crashing is greatly reduced by only playing one flash at a time - meaning closing any other browser tab using the flash-plugin.

I'm not technically involved enough to know what exactly causes the instability.

Oh, well... the problem is that pulseaudio is not installed on my system... but I haven't noticed if the crashes have happened while more than one tab is open in the browser (sometimes it works fine!). But what I cannot understand is why Opera is not opening the flash plugin. I could at least use it as an alternative solution for my problem... :(

I also installed Opera and noticed the same thing - it will not play back the flash objects. I wonder why that is - everything seems to be fine in the preferences...

It seems that Opera itself stopped working with Flash.

I saw this post and this other, but can't find the mentioned old version flash player.

I really don't know if it would help, as I saw an older Opera crashing in youtube. And FireFox freezes often. What's wrong?!

You mentioned a problem with pulseaudio... maybe it's a issue with the sound system, anyway...
