problem with files permissions and FTP

Hi all

Is now 10 days I get some strange problem with FTP and files permissions....and I start to become totally crazy because I don't understand where is the issue...

For manage my files on my virtual linux server (running suphp) I have always use with great success Filezilla (under Ubuntu)... All uploaded files/folder was always set immediately with attribute 644 for files and 755 for folder...and this is correct for my need...I never need to manually adjust permissions for any files because all stuff was always set with correct permissions 644 and 755...

Since 10 days now I don't know why when I upload files/folder all the stuff get 664 for files and 775 for folders.... I don't have change anything in Filezilla and I don't have update this software... I don't have also change nothing on my server...

I have try with some other FTP client (Kasablanca, Gftp, KftpGrabber and CuteFTP (available only for window but running with Wine) and I get same result...all stuff get attribute 664 and 775 when before attribute was set to 644 and 755...

I need to understand why now I get this problem when before everything was fine... I thinking it was a problem with Filezilla but after making some test with some other FTP client I see is not possible all client get a problem...so the only possibility are something go wrong with my server and files permissions... So I have contact my server provider and they make some test and check...but no problem with my server...it is well configured and all upload tests my provider do with same software was normal..all files permissions was correct...

I have finally test under Window using Filezilla and Cuteftp and I don't get any problem...My files are set with correct permissions...so now I am sure it is not a problem of my server or my ftp software...It appear to be a Ubuntu issue...but witch issue ????

I do always all update Ubuntu propose me almost every days...and it seem something was installed 10 days ago and make problem with FTP protocol...

Somebody have an idea ??? any suggestions ???

thanks

Sorry, can't help. Maybe you're correct, problem may come from Ubuntu Native ftp protocol. What version you use?

I was under ubuntu 8.04 and now I have upgrade to 8.10 and 9.04...but no change with files permissions...unreal...

All ftp software like Kasablanca, Gftp, KftpGrabber continue to attribute wrong permissions to uploaded files except IgloFTP....I don't understand why...

Hi dotcom22, I'd test at my server, seems no problem (I use 8.10).

Can you try another ftp server see whether the problem repeat?

yes clean upgrade...From 8.04 to 8.10 (with no change) and from 8.10 to 9.04 (with no change too)....No issue of any type..my Ubuntu run well...except this strange issue since 2 weeks now...

I have try to connect me to 2 other server where I have different host...and here I get some strange thing...With Filezilla, KFTPgrabber and IglooFTP a simple html file take 604 permissions....All files already present on this 2 server have correct permissions 644 (was uploaded years ago wiht cuteftp on window)...

Some people tell me about "umask"...do you know something more about ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umask

I must do something under Ubuntu with that ?

thanks for your interest...

When typing "umask" the result are just "0022"...and this is correct...With that umask normally files must get 644 permissions...

This story of permissions start to make me crazy....I think I will forget it and just set manually any attribute...BUT this is very annoying especially because 2 weeks ago I never get any problem like that...and this is the point I would like understand...

I have find something ))

IN fact for connect me I use always SFTP mode...but if I try using simple FTP mode my files/folder permissions are correct...

This happen also using Gftp and KftpGrabber....in simple FTP mode permissions are correct but not in SFTP...

The problem is I have always use SFTP and since 2 weeks now I get this problem....that mean it is a Ubuntu issue...maybe with an update of SSH or something else...

Yhea this is annoying... I started to use SFTP month ago for security reason...

My provider get also same problem when trying with Filezilla for example...But when trying in SFTP command line they don't get permissions issues...They are not able to replicate issue...and I don't know what to do...Right now only solution is to not use SFTP...
