Problem with Evolution mail
I want my web based e-mail to automatically download to my computer, i.e. into Evolution which appears and feels better than Thunderbird. Google mail is not a problem but Microsoft mail account is a problem.
I work on Linux Mint 17.1, Cinnamon 2.4.6. and would appreciate some help on how to set up or retrieve my M$ account mails.
Thanks in anticipation.

Confusion
When you say "Microsoft mail" do you mean the mail is on Hotmail, Outlook 365, or an Exchange server?
Running your own standard mail server, you can enable POP3 or IMAP. POP3 downloads mail to your local machine, IMAP is a protocol for reading, sending, manipulating your mail while it remains ON the server. Microsoft on EXCHANGE runs its own protocol that is more like IMAP.
Hotmail USED to support POP3, but I am not sure outlook 365 does. Exchange never has, to my knowledge. What you want may not be something that can be done within the MS parameters.

Hi wpeckham, thanks for your reply.
It is Windows Live mail. Let me give you a bit of background.
In Dec 2014 I switched from Windows 8.1 to Linux 17. Installed Thunderbird which worked fine, brought in all my folders, contacts and mails from Win Live mail plus gmail.
Then I did a clean instal of LM 17.1, again installed TB. This time no contacts and no folders only mail in Win Live. No problems with gmail.
I don't particularly like TB so uninstalled and moved to Evolution. I still sit with a dilemma in that no mails or anything coming through from WLM. Your last para is noted!
I read somewhere if I uninstall Evolution it can cause other problems. Can you walk me through this please, step by step. I am a newbie and don't understand half the language even tho I have spent hours reading up on Linux and threads etc.
Many thanks.

Alas..
I cannot help, and I wish I could. I have never used Windows Live email.
I hope someone else chimes in with some help.
Have you checked the Windows Life support pages? It would shock me if any other webmail site lacked such help, but this IS Microsoft. Still, it may pay to look.

I found it, I did it and solved the problem, Evolution mail works like a charm with Windows Live mail.
The incoming (POP3) and Outgoing (SMTP) server details had to be corrected. This done my inbox folder showed 58 messages but I couldn't view them. I tried every view available and stand on my head and whistle 'Jail House Rock' through every orifice - nothing helped. So I kept trawling. Then I changed the wording in my searches and came across a site started in 2009 and updated 2014 on how wonderful Evolution mail is. Well, knock me over with a damp rag! So I read it, because I am now brain dead anyway. In there the techie said "You must instal Evolution mapi". So simple, why don't the other million sites say that?
My butt has turned to stone, my legs feel like planks, and I feel as if I ran a marathon everyday for the past 2 weeks.
Cheers

Fixed is good.
A shower, long walk, and a nap will fix all of the afore mentioned issues! ;-)
Glad you found that. Good luck!

Hi Mar49,
Glad to hear that you solved your problem. You should mark it as solved, though. That will help others search for solutions to similar issues. You can mark a thread as solved with the Thead Tools drop-down list at the top of your original post.
