Well there are a few things you could do.........one is to dowload all the packages that the rpm requires and install them all......oh......and dowload the rpms that those packages require....and so on (it never seems to end)
two is that you could get the source packages and install them that way....... three would be to dowload "apt" and required packages (if there are any)from http://www.freshrpms.net install those packages and then at command line as root type : "apt-get update" after apt updates then type: "apt-get install mplayer" and it will dowload and install all the required packages for you" |
You could add yum & apt up2date support for RHL 9 on your box by visiting my site at , and http://rpm.frields.org, and pulling down the 4 binary RPM files marked "pwf." (The SRPM files are all labeled .src.rpm, you can grab them to build yourself if you prefer; but mine are GPG-signed. You'll need my public key if you take the binaries.)
Now your rhn-applet will function just like those from people who use Fedora Core 1 or above.... In other words, you'll be able to add this line to /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources and magically upgrade mplayer: yum freshrpms http://ayo.freshrpms.net/redhat/9/i386/freshrpms Then, at a shell prompt, you can simply type: up2date -i mplayer ...and you'll get all the dependencies fixed for you, with yum. Note also that you will need to twiddle the /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources file to point at an appropriate fedoralegacy.org mirror for base (out-of-the-box distro) and updates (provided by FL). |
