I suggest you get a minimum of Linux and Network education. It will enable you to ask more specific questions and to understand the answers that people try to give you here. In the end, it will be a great time saver (for you but also the others).

Some time ago, you were told to read the book "The Linux command line". Its PDF version (English only) is free for downloading.

A Chinese translation can be bought here and perhaps at other places:
http://books.gotop.com.tw/e_ACA018900.

How to enable port 8000 on the server, as Oracle EBS is running on it, and I need such port from client machine to call form?

you need to understand: port is something like a gate, a door (or port) where information/data/network traffic can enter into that host. But a port is only opened if something is waiting for information on that given port, otherwise all the requests/packages/informations sent to that port will be just lost, dropped - forever. So you need to find an application to serve incoming requests. Probably it is made by oracle, I have no idea. Anyway you need to check the config file (of that EDB probably) and specify the port in that file (that means the app will know where should it expect network traffic). That is the way to enable port 8000 however enabling is not the right word I think.

I've done these

[root@hpi5 scripts]# ss -lntp | grep 8000

[root@hpi5 scripts]#

on server but have still got this on the client

C:\Users\Peter>telnet hpi5.huamin.com 8000

Your remote server is most likely listening using the tcp protocol; try
Code:
netstat -tanp |grep 8000
ping uses the icmp protocol (usually).
Try tcptraceroute http://linux.die.net/man/1/tcptraceroute to see if there is an intervening switch/router etc that may be blocking.
Also check the logs on the server to see if its the one doing the refusing.

Congratulations, that's better than before. So processes are listening on that port.

Next step: Check the firewall.

As root, run iptables -S.

Previously, you failed this exercise. You ran iptables -S as a non-root user, or iptables without the -S option, or you mistyped iptables. Or various combinations of these. So please pay attention:
  • Use whoami to check if you are root
  • If not, become root
  • Run iptables -S
  • Show us the output
If you don't like -S, -L is also OK. Personally I like the output of -S better.

And I implore you, read a book about the Linux command line and basic system administration.

I've done "netstat" like
[root@hpi5 oracle]# netstat -tanp |grep 8000
[root@hpi5 oracle]# iptables -S
bash: iptables: command not found

But I still get

C:\Users\peter>telnet hpi5.huamin.com 8000
Connecting To hpi5.huamin.com...Could not open connection to the host, on port 8
000: Connect failed

C:\Users\peter>ping hpi5.huamin.com

Many thanks. Can you please advise the proper switch to "iptables" below?

[root@hpi5 oracle]# /sbin/iptables -S
iptables v1.3.5: Unknown arg `-S'
Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information.
[root@hpi5 oracle]# /sbin/iptables
iptables v1.3.5: no command specified
Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information.
[root@hpi5 oracle]# /sbin/iptables -s

Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information.

Seeing as we're talking about a RHEL server, show
Code:
cat /etc/sysconfig/iptables
This shows the iptables cfg for v5 or v6; not sure about v7.
