Problem to boot up Ubuntu 9.10

Hi Guys,
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 long time ago and it was working fine until certain point where when i start it, it kept hanging. My PC us using dual OS, Ubuntu and Windows XP. Each time, when i select Ubuntu OS, i just get the logo and the screen stood there for quite some time. I tried to perform recovery and manage to get into the command prompt. I run the checkdisk and up till one point it stops. Its where it performs some fscchk and appsmoll. Can someone help me out how to resolve this issue as i need to use my ubuntu quite urgent. Im really stuck and any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you guys.

Rgds,
MK.

If it's really fsck, then your install is just corrupted, check pour hard drive for bad sectors and install Ubuntu again. But it is unlikely to be the real problem. When you select Ubuntu, press "e" then use the onscreen instruction to edit the text. Remove "quiet" and "splash" parameter and boot. It will display the real error instead of hiding it under the splash screen.

HI ,
I'm still having problem to reinstall my Ubuntu. This time i plan to move towards 10.04 and I am not sure how to uninstall my existing 9.10. I did partition and running both XP and Ubuntu.
Could some one provide me the steps to remove my existing Ubuntu and install back the new one on the same partition. I'm a beginner and would need a quite detail steps so that i can perform the installation successfully.

Thanks in advance guys.
