Problem solved! Evolution

I've been having trouble sending and/or receiving e-mail back and forth between 2 stand alone boxes via dial-up ISP, for 2 weeks, with Evolution E-mail Client. First version was 1.0.2, I believe running on Mandrake 8.2 which it came with. Second version is 2.0.1 running on Mandrake 10.1 which it came with.

So, I checked all the related messages I could search out here. Not being a Network person, I do suppose those folks have a lot of leaway in naming their various SMTP and POP servers.

I had to install KPPP on the 10.1 box as I couldn't get the Mandrake Control Center Internet Connection to work for me.

These are the settings I ended up using in Evolution, they work for me:

Receiving Mail, POP, Configuration, Host: mail.internetprovider.com:110
Sending Mail, SMTP, Server Configuration, Host: mail.internetprovider:25

I had to add "mail" plus the "." before my provider's hostname, and the ":" and 110 after it. 110 being the port number for pop3.

I had to add "mail" plus the "." before my provider's hostname, and the ":" and 25 after it. 25 being the port number for smtp.

And it works, hope this helps someone else, and thanks to all those who made suggestions that helped me!
