problem ripping cd's

for some reason I am unable to rip cd's anymore

the wav files produced by k3b, grip, KAudioCreator are unplayable (silent)

if I create wav files in windows, lame (in linux) will convert them to mp3 without any problems.

I haven't changed the system configuration, and cd's which I have ripped successfully in the past now won't rip.

anyone have any ideas what may be up?

have changed settings in grip from cdparanoia to cdda2wav, but no difference.

tried abcde at the command line, but that produces unplayable ogg files.

??

cdparanoia doesn't work from the command line. it appears to create a wav file, which xmms thinks it is playing, but no sound comes out.

xmms does work with wav files created in windows.

any ideas?

have you updated or upgraded ANY programs lately??
a .wav file is a .wav file........same as
an .mp3 is an .mp3.........I can play both in windows or Slackware.

something got broke somewhere, maybe just re-trace your steps on
what you did to your system........
