Problem installing windows after Mandrake 8.0

Here is my dillema...

I wiped my hdd with a windows boot disk and ran fdisk. According to fdisk there are no partitions, so next I wanted to reinstall windoze98. I proceeded to format c: and that went ok as well. Now first you should know that I also had mandrake 8.0 and I assumed fdisk would remove it for me. So when I ran setup on the win98 cd, it told me that I cannot continue and to check for nt file system or htfs (not aware of that one).
So my problem is that none of the solutions mentioned in other threads I've read will work for me because I have no OS to run partition magic and Windows wont let me install.
When I boot from the hard disk, GRUB loads up but I don't know what commands to use in it. I tried a couple commands but nothing worked.
I have not tried fdisk /mbr but I will when I get home tonight. Can I use fdisk from my win98boot disk or can I possibly do it from my mandrake install cd?

the easiest way for you to have a dual boot is to first load windows, then load mandrake or linux afterwards... complications arise when you do it vice versa....

windows fdisk doesn't recognize anything else apart from fat so you should have use linux's fdisk to nuke everything. what you can do is create linux's bootdisk and boot with that instead. after the kernel loads and you get the initial greetings, switch to console mode by pressing alt+ctrl+f2 and run fdisk from there. delete all partitions and recreate the ones you need.
i suggest you create your windows partition first (don't forget to change the type from ext2 to fat) and also leave some space for linux. when done abort the installation, format your new fat partition and install windows.
