Question Problem installing video decoder on Ubuntu 20.04; Microsoft font installer hangs

Running Ubuntu 19.04 I had no problem viewing videos, but now I've installed v. 20.04 I cannot. I get a message as in file 'Install Video Player 1.png' or similar. I have tried to install the necessary decoders (Install Video Player 2.png) and initially things run well (Install Video Player 3.png).
But when the screen asking for confirmation of installing Microsoft fonts appears everything hangs (install Video Player 4.png). Although the option <OK> can be highlighted it is not actionable, either by a left or right mouse click, pressing 'Return', typing 'Y' or any other character or by any other means. I have found no choice other than to close the terminal window. Doing this produces a message that a procedure is running and will be interupted.
After closing the terminal window, re-opening it, and trying to run the procedure again I get Install Video Player 5.png.
On shutting down the machine and 'Restart' nothing runs in a terminal window unless I run a configure procedure.
I hope this is a simple, easily fixed problem, but I am too much of a Ubuntu novice to see it. Easily followable help to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

the cache lock means there is another parallel run (or there was another execution which was not terminated properly).
try to reboot and restart it. You may try to remove that file (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend) if you are sure there is no other instance running.
