Problem installing pygtk, glib on Slackware 10.2

Hi, im new to linux and i'm having the following problem:

I need to install pyGTK (> 2.2.0 so I tried with 2.8.6), but when I type ./configure, the following message appears:

checking for GLIB - version >= 2.8.0... no
*** Could not run GLIB test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GLIB is incorrectly installed.
configure: error: gobject is required to build pygtk?

So I tried to install GLIB 2.12.4 (after installing pkg-config whick was required) and apparently it did fine.

But the error message continues to appear...

I used as path /usr/lib/ in all the cases (--prefix=/usr/lib). Is this correct ? How can I verify that GLIB installed correctly?

I really need this done soon. Any help would be really appreciated.

thanks!

No, --prefix=/usr/lib is not correct. Technically, you can install your software anywhere you want, but that's not a very good choice.

Here is a way to install glib that should not result in any problems for you in the future.
Code:
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
make install
