Problem installing Open office 2.3.0 in SuSe using Yast

Hi I have just started this year using SuSe linux and I have a problem.:newbie:

I got My SuSe 9.1 CD and Open Office.Org 2.0.2 CD early this year. I successfully loaded SuSe and got it to run alongside Win**** XP. I have been using Linux more often than i have the XP thing ( Actually Have to remember to log in lest i forget my password)

Any way Linux run very well and i have been using Open Office that SuSe gets shipped with. I wanted to try out OOo.2.0.2 but when i tried installing it using YAST, i couldnt find where it installed it (or if it intalled at all ):o

So i uninstalled Open Office.org.1.1.0 that i got shipped with SuSe and then tried to re-install Open Office.org.2.0.2 again to no avail. So now i have neither in my computer. I went on to XP and installed the windowz version of Open Office and it runs very well.

This is an embarrasing situation I would appreciate a tutorial on this with some graphics if possible (alas! i am unimaginative). I would really love to start using Open Office where it belong in Linux.

Thanks!:Pengy:

There is no OOo 2.3.0. The latest is 2.0.2.

You need to extract the OOo 2.0.2 tarball, then change into the RPMS subdirectory and do
Code:

#rpm -Uvh *.rpm desktop-integration/*suse*

I assume you are using the .rpm files to install...

Does the rpm command complete without errors?

My install is in /opt---If I remember correctly, this was the default.

To find where it installed, just search for one of the run scripts---eg "swriter"

Hi guys.

Sorry our UPS Back-up at work was down yesterday so i could not check out the forum. i will try yor suggestions out tonight & give feed back on Monday.

I did find out from my IT Manager that i needed to change the saurce of installation in YAST to point to the location where i copied the rpm files to:o . I tried that and the rpm only installed SUse Menus. We are going to try and install it in his workstation and see i fhe got me the right package.

Thank you lots & talk to you later!:jawa:

If you are not using GNOME, delete the openoffice.org-gnome-integration rpm because you won't need it and then rerun the commands above. If you are using GNOME, install gnome-vfs2 and then rerun the commands above.
