it's AVLinux install from Live CD I am on. When trying to update lmms to the latest version I ran into a problem
Code:
apt-get install
does not work because of outdated sources.list and installing from the source ends up with errors.
Would changing repositories in the source.list help? (I do not want to screw up the present system).
Thank you for your kind attention.
thank you, however I'd like to know if changing of repositories in sources.list to something like 'jessie' (prior to 'apt-update' and 'apt-install') will not make a mess of my present AVLinux system.
I don't want to install system, all I want is to install a software which is not available in my present system but can be installed under Debian 8.
So my question is: can I safely change /etc/apt/sources.list to refer it to 'jessie' repositories and mirrors (without upgrading my present AVLinux) in order to install lmms 1.1.3?
I used Live AVLinux CD but it worked too slowly at booting (and sure I could not add or change programs on it).
The CD has a utility to install AVLinux to hard drive which I did and now I can add programs yet sources.list in this distro does not allow to install a newer version of lmms to my hard drive because repositories in the list are antiquated (who cares for repositories you cannot use as it is in CD case).
Now, can I change list file and use it for installing advanced programs WITHOUT changing the present system (which is AVLinux on my hard drive)?
I am not going to 'apt-get dist-upgrade', all I need is to be able to install lmms-1.1.3 instead of lmms-0.4.7
it's some time since I wrote to this thread,
Now I know that switching to a different distro's repositories is not a good idea because when I referred to 'jessie' in /etc/apt/sources.list, updated apt-get and tried install aptitude (which is not present in AVLinux) dpkg got broken.
It's like egg and chicken problem - to fix a broken package you use dpkg but broken dpkg is of no use to fix a broken package.
O woeful news!
