The most usual explanation for an install that just won't run is that you have a unreadable (badly burnt) CD to install from.
There are various other options that can cause problems; most installers provide a safe mode that turns off DMA, high-resolution graphics and so on.
However, if you're new to Linux then I doubt that you want to be using Fedora. It's a great distribution, but it is aimed at getting high-performance rather than being overly user-friendly.
I recommend trying a different distribution such as Mandrake (
www.mandrake.org), Debian (
www.debian.org), Gentoo (
www.gentoo.org) or SuSE (
www.suse.org).
