Unhappy Problem installing KDE 3 on Redhat 9, help plz

Hi, I have a problem regarding KDE 3 post installation on Redhat 9.

I have compiling KDE 3.1 on my Redhat 9 system, but when I start it using startkde, I only get a few links on my kicker panel, it seems that no application have been installed, in fact I already install almost all of KDE applications. And when I click the Control Center link, nothing happens...

I also look at the kde/share/applnk dir too, it seems that all links are already there, but I don't know why they're not working...

Is there someone who can help me?

well i am not sure about the answer to your question but i do have an alternative route you could take which is soooo much easier when it comes to upgrading kde imo...
go get apt-get and install it, and when its installed open up /etc/apt/sources.list and add:
rpm ftp://apt.unl.edu/apt/ 8.0 kde3 kde3-extras
(just copy and paste) to the end of the file...
and then at the prompt type:
apt-get install kde
and it will install kde taking care of all dependancies and you don't have to worry about a thing

just had a thought that apt-get install kde may or may not work and if it doesn't work just type apt-get install kde3 ... i just currently forget which one it is but know its one of them

Wheeew... finally I know the problem... it is Red Hat's fault placing kde-config and some other kde files at /usr/bin even when I'm not installing kde package, while kde need kde-config to load all the settings, and it ended that kde is using RH's file which is the modified version... now, after removing those files KDE started beautifully... Wow! I love original KDE!

Thanks Dr0zz for trying to help out...
