Problem installing JMF

I am trying to install JMF 2.1.1, and when I
follow the install instructions, it unpacks the files
and then gives me the message "JMF-2.1.1/bin/jmfinit:
line 88: exec: java: not found" and stops installing. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

It sounds like it requires you to have java installed, and that you don't have it installed. If you do not know how to install java, tell us which distribution of Linux you are using so we can help you.

If you'd like, take a look at this page, and particularly the part about the java error.

Use Slackbuild to install JMF

I used slackbuild to install JMF:

Open http://slackbuilds.org/ , select your Slackware version and type "jmf".
Download jmf.tar.gz and jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin pointed at the site.
Extract jmf.tar.gz and put jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin inside the extracted folder, run the slackbuild script and install the new generated package (# installpkg /tmp/jmf-2.1.1e-i586-1_SBo.tgz or installpkg /tmp/jmf-2.1.1e-i586-1_SBo.txz for Slackware 13.0).
