Problem installing Fedora Core 5

I am trying to install Fedora Core 5 on my computer and I'm getting error messages. The hard drive I am installing on already has XP on it and I dont want to lose it. The error message showed up when I triad to partition the HDD. I don't remember the exact wording, but it basically told me that it could not partition the drive. Any wise words?

P.S. I'm a newbee to Linux and I am yet to be able to fluently speak the language.

In order to give you the best possible answer we will need the actual error. If you could write it down when you try to install it then it will help you produce better restults and help us give you the best possible solution.

If your windows partition is sized to use up the entire drive, then FC5 cannot resize your ntfs partition to make room for Fedora. Your best best in this case is to use a program such as Partition Magic or Partition Commander to resize your ntfs partition to make some empty space (I would suggest 20 GB or more if possible). FC5 will then be able to use the free space to create it's partitions.

Before using one of these programs, be sure to defrag the hard disk under WinXP before running Partition Magic. Also, be sure to back up any important data under WinXP before starting, as if a problem occurs, it could destroy your Windows partition.
