problem installing amap

i downloaded amap-5.2 tarball on my desktop and unpacked and tried to install it on doing "make" i get the following error
(these are the last 3/4 lines)

"gcc -O2 -o amap amap.c amap-lib.o -lpcre -L./pcre-3.9/ -I./pcre-3.9/ -lssl -lcrypto -L/usr/lib -L/usr/lib -I/usr/local/ssl/include -DOPENSSL
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lssl
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [amap] Error 1"

pls help

i have ubuntu 8.10

You need to install openssl-dev

Ubuntu 8.10 : 'sudo apt-get install libssl-dev'

Explanation : when configure asks for lsomething,
it means libsomething-dev in Ubuntu.
