problem in kernel 2.6.18 with lilo.conf

hello
i'm using slackware and i recently installed kernel 2.6.18, and there is a problem in kernel 2.6.18-
i can't install lilo:
Code:
bash-3.00# lilo
Warning: boot record relocation beyond BPB is necessary: /dev/fd0
Warning: '/proc/partitions' does not match '/dev' directory structure.
    Name change: '/dev/sda' -> '/dev/sda'
Fatal: open /dev/sda: No such file or directory
lilo is working but i can't install it if i want to change something.
is there a way to install the old kernel (2.6.15.3) and remove 2.6.18?
thank you!

Ok, I'll try to help if I can. First off, never write over or uninstall a earlier kernel version. I'm not sure that you did if you followed one of the guides as they pretty much try to make sure you don't. That being said, lets check and see whats going on. First, when you did lilo-config, you should have answered "no to the first question, and yes after that(as will be obvious). This will redo your /etc/lilo.conf file with all of the vmlinuz images in /boot. Also check to see if those images are there IN boot. Are they? If so, then your problem is either with your compiling of the kernel, or with Lilo. I guess this is as good a place as any to start. See if this fixes the problem. If you are already way beyond this then I probably can't help you, but somebody can, and will

This probably doesn't matter now, but I can tell you I get that message if I try to run lilo while a usb drive is connected. Even if it's not mounted, just being connected so that the /dev entry exists.
