Question Problem in installing RPM.

Hi Members
I have an application that links with libstdc++.so.5, however the target system only has libstdc++.so.6 installed. Should i install an earlier version of the stdc++ library to account for this? Is this ok or will it cause a system-wide downgrade? If i can install the earlier version with which the app is compatable, then what do i install - i.e what rpm package?

//This is the targe system /usr/lib dir

ls -l /usr/lib/libstd*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Sep 22 11:12 /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 -> libstdc++.so.6.0.8
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 804032 Jun 9 15:18 /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.8

Thanks

You can usually get around this. The packages I mention are from F7 but similar packages should be available for Redhat.

compat-libstdc++-296

compat-libstdc++-33

Should give you compatibility for stuff based on GCC-2.96 and GCC-3.3 .

Switching libstdc++ will probably cause you a ton of headaches.

Specifically what app are we talking about?

If that's the only dependency that you need, maybe if you do a symbolinc link so that the so.6 "looks like" so.5 could do the trick. At least I used to do that a lot on Mandrake (back in the days).
