i am using dial up connection so it takes a long time. i want to know whether this process, i mean retrieving software information stage, is necossory when i want to install a package also what is a real responsibliy of this stage? can i omit this stage?

tnx

If you are using dial up the process can take a very long time. You probably need a faster net connection or alternatively just use cd/dvd sets as installation sources. More info on this is available from here.

1. don't revive yrs old threads, start a new qn
2. I don't know about that Linpus Lite, but the xxx.fc8.xx files are from Redhat Fedora 8, which is long obsolete/no longer updated. F10 & F11, are current, but F12 is due out Nov (iirc), so F10 will be obsoleted soon after.

START a mew Thread for limpus light

also the OLD and unsupported fedora8 rpms ARE NOT COMPATABLE -- do not install them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you might want to scrape limpus light and install Ubuntu
