Problem in configuring thunderbird with mailbox storage on NAS
Hi
I'm using fedora8 and i'm getting error message when NAS path is used for local directory in thunderbird. We planned to place the employee mail boxes on NAS,so that we did'nt required to take backup of mailboxes. I have mounted the NAS ftp server location, and placed the inbox which i allready used on local system, but it was not accepting. Thanx in Advance |

And it might help if you actually told us WHAT the error message is, and gave us details. Also, Fedora 8 is ancient...the latest is 13, so if this is a new installation, do yourself a favor, and upgrade. And if you're 'mounting' the NAS via FTP, that might be a source of the problem. Try mounting it with NFS or Samba. |
Hi..
I tried to give ftp mount point path, however it had accepted samba mount point sucessfully...... Now i have to decide whether to move mailboxes to NAS or not because accessing mails is little but slower and n/w traffic will also be effected. |

And that's obvious that it would be slower. You've not only got network access speeds, but protocol overhead for Sabma, times access speed on the NAS device, times number of users. You can try NFS, which may be a *BIT* quicker, but NAS is only going to give you so much. Disk is cheap. You can get a 500GB disk for less than $100. Buy one, put it in your server, and don't use NAS for user-intensive processes. |
yes...it is accepting samba path.
But i will not go for that,as overhead on samba and n/w increases. I will look at NFS. Thank You |

Doing it over the network is going to be slower, period. |
