problem getting vpopmail to deliver into users home directory

Hope this is in the right place, I've never posted anything before. I have installed qmail, vpopmail, and courier-imap according to the howto at qmailrocks. I can create a virtual domain bb.example.com on host bb.example.com and create a user, bob. The mail gets delivered into /home/vpopmail/domains/bb.example.com/bob/Maildir/new. It does not get delivered into /home/bob/Maildir/new, but the email client looks there for the mail.

1. Maybe I'm just confused, but should vpopmail also send the mail to /home/user/Maildir?
here is qmail/users/assign
+bb.example.com-:bb.example.com:1017:114:/home/vpopmail/domains/bb.example.com:-::

2. If not, how do I point courier-imap or the email client from /home/bob/Maildir to /home/vpopmail/domains/bb.example.com/bob/Maildir?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help,
jlarsen

If you setup your mail server according to qmailrocks.org, you should not need to "point" anything. It should be able to retrieve mail from the /home/vpopmail/domains without you having to manually tell it where to go.

The user for /home/bob.... is this a normal system account? I think you're better off creating an account for bob using qmailadmin. You just login to qmailadmin as "postmaster" using the domain bb.example.com and you create email accounts under there. There should be no need to meddle with /var/qmail/users. vpopmail and qmailadmin should handle all of this for you in the background behind the scenes. Messing with it yourself is likely to mess up your server.

This turned out to be a configuration problem with the email client. I had the imap login set as bob when it needed to be bob@bb.example.com. Seems so obvious now...
