Problem getting apt-get to work.

Hello... I just installed apt-get for my Mandrake 9.1 dist. Everything installed ok. At first, when I typed "apt-get update" it showed me an error in the vendors list. I replaced it with a friend's vendor list and it started running. I was able to run "apt-get update" and some download started taking place.

Nevertheless, when I try to install any package, it seems to fail because no pakacages are found. Example:

[joseamuniz@localhost joseamuniz]$ su -c 'apt-get install xine'
Password:
Reading Package Lists... Done
Collecting File Provides... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package xine

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. I've been trying hard but I don't seem to get the mistake. Maybe the sources.list and vendors.list are not the adequate. Thanks a lot in advance.

hmm....

I don't have an apt-get tool to test, but what happens if you do:
apt-cache search xine
?

packages.debian.org lists xine as being in the xine-ui package. try installing that instead
